I went through my recipe box (Ok, it’s not a box. It’s an app.) and also asked friends for their favorite New Year’s Day dishes. I’ve lived in various parts of the country and the New Year’s food traditions vary as much as you’d expect…from brats and beer in the upper midwest to pork roast and kraut in Ohio. But, I generally return to my Southern roots for New Year’s Day and that’s mostly what you’ll find in the recipes below. Um, yes. We do love our blackeyed peas because they symbolize good luck for the year!
Happy New Year to everyone and may you eat well and live happily in 2023!

There are a variety of New Year’s Day superstitions surrounding the foods eaten, when they’re eaten, whether or not to clean your plate or leave a bit of food behind. The folklore of food is as delicious as the food itself, in many cases. What are your favorite New Year’s Day foods and traditions?
